April Events
Mark your calendars, we've got two adoption events scheduled for April: on the 12th at the Weatherford Petsmart and the 26th at the Tractor Supply in Weatherford. We are advertising in the Weatherford-Democrat community calendar and in the weekly Pet of the Week feature in the Weatherford-Telegram. Denise Cook also provides our schedule in her column in the Sunday issue of the Weatherford-Democrat.

Chamber Membership
We joined the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce this month, which will provide additional exposure for our group.  We'll have a ribbon cutting in the next few weeks and will let you know when and where, we'd love to have you join us in promoting the group.

Making a PAWS-itive Difference
Thank you again for your support. The adoption rate at the shelter has shown a marked increase this year. And while there are many factors involved, additional exposure of the adoptable pets to the public is part of the solution.

Adoption events bring more than new homes

We had two successful adoption events in March, adopting 5 pets at each event. We went to the Hudson Oaks Walmart on March 15 and to Tractor Supply on March 29. In addition to the adoptions, we collected supplies for the shelter and donations for items needed. We met prospective volunteers, and we promoted adoptions at the shelter by sharing information about pets that were still available there. The adoption events are helping the animals in many ways.

Helping Special Needs Pets

One of our new volunteers, JoEllyn Swanson, is fostering a yellow lab that was adopted from the shelter but returned due to health problems. She needs a more extensive spay operation than is normally performed at the shelter and has some other needs. JoEllyn will keep Molly at her home while she recovers from the surgery and until we find her an adopter. We'll cover her medical expenses and we look forward to finding her that forever home. This playful and friendly girl is counting on it. Donations are being accepted to fund veterinary care for Molly and other pets at the shelter that need our help.

And more to come

We are planning fundraising events to begin this summer. We'll be setting up a booth at the Parker County Peach Festival in July and have other fun activities in mind. We'll keep you informed as we get more details.
