Parker Paws
Foster Success

Tia was brought to the shelter with a broken leg and no way to contact her owner. Unfortunately she needed her leg amputated but she's recovering well and is enjoying her foster home. We appreciate our volunteers, generous donors and the vets who work with us to save pets like Tia. Thank you!

Foster Program

Our foster program has volunteers who take pets home from the shelter to give them more time and/or needed vet care to find a permanent home. We've got many litters of kittens (and their moms!) who will be available for adoption within the next few weeks as the kittens become weaned. We took in 22 more pets into foster care in May, and that many went out so we still have 47 foster pets. Here are some who are available for adoption now (with links to their Petfinder pages):

Adoption Events

Bullet is a playful young German Shepherd mix who was adopted at one of our mobile adoptions at Jerry's Autogroup in May. We stayed busy this month with events at Petsmart, Jerry's GMC & Hyundai, Southwest Auto Group, and the Ace Hardware in Willow Park, and with our first Pet Fair at the shelter. With triple-digit heat coming our way, we're going to stick with early mornings or indoor venues for adoption events the next few months. Visit us at the Weatherford Library on June 3 from 10am until noon or inside the Weatherford Petsmart on June 19 from noon until 3pm. Check our Events page for more details.

Mutt Makeover

We're excited to have three dogs from the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter entered in this year's Mutt Makeover. The Humane Society of North Texas selects dogs from area shelters to be sent to trainers who will then compete (and show the public the potential of shelter pets). Check out the website and watch for Oliver, Ray, and Guliver in the promotions. The final competition will be August 14.

Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic and Vaccinations

Our spay/neuter clinic in May was conducted by the non-profit group TCAP (Texas Coalition for Animal Protection) in an effort to help reduce the number of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. Especially this time of year we see so many litters dropped off at the shelter, and not enough potential adopters for them. Thank you to everyone who participated and who helped us to spread the word.

Hot Dog Trot 2010

Save the date for this year's Hot Dog Trot: August 14. We'll have a 1K fun run/walk and a chip-certified 5K, and you're welcome to bring your dog to join in. We'll also have a dachshund race, a canine costume contest, and more activities. For more information and photos from last year, visit our website: www.HotDogTrot.com.

Happy Tales

Check our Happy Tales page for the latest success stories. If you've adopted from the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter or Parker Paws, please share us your story.

Have a great month!
