Fostering
with Parker Paws 11 pets were taken from the shelter into
foster care with our volunteers, including two injured dogs. One,
Winston, is an adorable black and tan dachshund, who is recovering
well and is now available for adoption. The other, a sweet black
lab, has more serious injuries and the volunteer has decided to
adopt her and will keep her in her care. 19 others of our fostered
pets were adopted this month!
One of the pets taken into
foster care this month is Cesar, a super-friendly declawed male cat.
Because he's declawed, he needs to be an indoor only cat, and it
seems most people want an indoor/outdoor cat or prefer a kitten. Do
you know someone who'd love this handsome boy?

Here
are some of our other foster pets who are available for adoption now

 We
love our supporters! Please share this newsletter with your friends.
There are so many homeless pets in need, and so many ways you can
make a difference in their lives. If you can't volunteer at this
time, please consider helping us help them by making a donation. All
donations are tax-deductible.
Because of your generosity we
were able to purchase dog food, leashes, and other supplies for the
shelter this month, as well as help some of the pets who came to the
shelter in need of vet care before they could be adopted.

Hot Dog Trot
Plans for our first dog
walk are well underway, thanks to our organizers at Wright
Chiropractic Health Center. The event will be held on August 15,
early in the morning to beat the heat. There will be a 1K Fun
Walk/Run as well as a certified 5K, with awards in many categories.
You may walk/run with or without your dog. We will also have a Dog
Costume Contest!
We're now looking for vendors, sponsors,
and entrants. Click here if you would like to sponsor us or have a
vendor booth, and click here to download an entrant's application. All
proceeds benefit Parker Paws and the animals at the shelter. We hope
you will join us.
Mobile
Adoptions
We held an adoption event at Petsmart on June 20, finding homes
for 6 dogs who had been in foster care. We appreciate the staff at
Petsmart for making room for us indoors on this hot afternoon.
Upcoming
Events
With the increasingly hot weather, we'll plan more activities
indoors or at the shelter. We'll have a special adoption day at the
shelter on July 25 with our volunteers and fostered pets ready to
help you find your next new friend.
Training
Tip for July
Did you know you can teach your dog/puppy to "ask" to go outside
by hanging a bell on the door you use to let them in and out? (Make
sure it is big enough so that they can't swallow it if he removes
it.) Show him how to move the bell by luring his muzzle past the
string it's hanging from, then feeding him the treat. After a few
short sessions, most dogs will try to bump the string in order for
you to give them the treat, because you only let them have the treat
IF they bumped it, right? Then, using your regular housebreaking
schedule, every time he needs to go out, take him to the door and
again lure (you might need to do this to remind him what to do) or
wait for him to touch the bell or string. Pretty soon he will be
ringing the bell on his own. This saves on accidents for dogs who
don't know how to "ask" and it also saves on scratched door frames
or barking.
Stay cool and please make sure your pets are
comfortable, too!
