Fostering
with Parker Paws Our volunteers took 12 more pets from the shelter
into foster care this month, including a momma cat with young kittens and other pets
needing more time to find a permanent home. Twelve of our fostered pets were adopted,
great news for Molly, Jessie, Shasta, Spunky and the rest! There are still 25 in our
volunteers' homes. As soon as more are adopted, the
volunteers can take home others from the shelter.
Here
are some of our foster pets who are available for adoption now

Our thanks to all our donors this
month! You helped us purchase items for the shelter to care for the pets,
and pay for vet care for our foster pets. We couldn't do this without you!

Hot Dog Trot
Our first annual walk debuts this month! We
hope you've made plans to join us August 15. There will be a 1K Fun
Walk/Run as well as a certified 5K, with awards in many categories.
You may walk/run with or without your dog. We will also have a Dog
Costume Contest!
We've got great raffle prizes available, including golf at Canyon West,
tickets to the Rangers games, restaurant gift certificates and other incentives. All participants receive free raffle tickets, with more available for purchase.
Click here to download an entrant's application. The Hot Dog Trot will be held at Hall Middle School at 902 Charles Street in Weatherford. All
proceeds benefit Parker Paws and the animals at the shelter.
Mobile
Adoptions
With the summer weather (thunderstorms or 100+ heat, what a choice!), we'll plan
more activities
indoors or at the shelter. We had a special adoption day at the
shelter on July 25 to help find homes for the shelter pets as well as our fosters,
and were inside Petsmart on August 1. We'll have the adoption trailer at the Hot Dog
Trot on August 15 and then will schedule regular adoption events again in September.
Training
Tip for August
Food for thought on living happily with your dog. A dog is not a decoration nor a
potted plant. He/she craves interaction with their "people" every day, and also plenty
of daily exercise. The canine is designed to cover a LOT of territory in their jobs as
hunters. In "the wild" they would stay busy all day, covering miles. We often take
this away by keeping them in the house or yard all day while we are at work or busy
with other things and this can lead to the dog finding unacceptable outlets for
their energy. By taking time to play with your dog or go for a walk every day, you
can direct some of that energy. A regular game of fetch or hide and seek or a walk
around the neighborhood really is mentally and physically stimulating. It's good for
your pet and for you!
