Mobile Adoptions
We held four adoption events in October, finding homes for 13 shelter pets and 6 fostered pets.
Halloween at the shelter was a fun event. We had many willing participants for our costumes, who greeted the trick-or-treaters and other visitors to the shelter. This month, come join us at Petsmart on the 14th. We're securing plans for more dates. Dr. Jones, a chiropractor in White Settlement, has a fundraising event scheduled for the 21st and has invited us to participate. We'll provide you with the exact location as soon as possible. Also, 4P Doggie Dude Ranch is sponsoring an adoption event with us on the 28th and we're reserving a location. Check our events page for updated details.

Fostering
with Parker Paws We found homes for 14 of our fostered pets this month,
including Tina, Penny, and Duffy. Our volunteers have taken more from the shelter to give them enough time to find permanent homes. There are 16 currently awaiting adoption. Your donations help us provide vet care for these fosters.

Our thanks to all our donors this
month! You helped us purchase items for the shelter to care for the pets,
and also pay for vet care for our foster pets. We couldn't do this without you!

Parker Paws 2nd Anniversary
Our volunteers help at the shelter and at adoption events throughout the community, encouraging adoptions of shelter pets. We maintain the Petfinder.com site (weatherford.petfinder.com) and have volunteers who foster pets from the shelter to give them more time to find a permanent home. We also fundraise to purchase supplies for the shelter, and to provide vet care for our foster pets. Please join us for a reception at the shelter on Friday, November 20, from 1:00-3:00 as we celebrate our accomplishments these past two years.
Our thanks to our many supporters

Griffin celebrated his 7th birthday requesting donations to Cook's Childrens Hospital and the animal shelter, instead of gifts. Thank you, Griffin! Maurices Specialty Store in Weatherford held a pet supply drive for the shelter and had a silent auction, raising over $200. Well done!

Cabella's donated us a new pop-up canopy, and Main Street Banners and Signs in Weatherford donated this great new banner for us. Thank you, this will help draw attention at our adoption events. We've received our first grant, $1500 from Conoco Phillips. We are very appreciative of this funding for our foster pets. Last but not least, our thanks to our many supporters who voted for us in the competition at American State Bank. We'll learn the results on Thursday, Nov. 4. Fantasy Forest 2009 We'll compete in the City of Weatherford's annual Fantasy Forest competion as we try again to take first place. Charities provide decorated trees which will be on display at City Hall (303 Palo Pinto) from November 16 through December 4th. You may vote at City Hall, with the winning tree receiving the People Choice Award and $150. All trees will be in a silent auction which ends at noon on December 4th. Each charity receives the full amount bid on their tree. It's a friendly competion, and is always a beautiful display. Come visit and see for yourself!
Training
Tip for November
Here is a simple way to teach your dog not to jump up on you. It takes a little perseverance at first, but it works. Start with short training sessions (maybe several a day) using some yummy treats. When he jumps up on you, ignore it. You might have to turn away. No command. He will eventually return to earth. Be ready… when he gets all four on the floor, quickly say "Good!" and pop a treat in his mouth. The theory is that by ignoring him when he jumps up and rewarding him every time he is earthbound, he will quickly get the idea which place is more rewarding and he will think he is training you! With good timing and consistency, if you reward short microbursts of good behavior you can proceed on to longer moments of good and also with other people.
