I thought I would give you an update on Bodie, who you guys know as B.J. He is the most spoiled dog on the planet minus his sister, an american bulldog/pit mix we got in January. They love to love on each other and play around. Bodie didn't end up getting very big, tall wise. He tends to be a little chunky sometimes. We did a dna test on him and it came back that he had a small percentage of lab and not enough traces of anything else for them to figure it out! We found that very funny. He is a Heinz 120 then rather than 57. We love him no matter what breed he is, we were just curious to find out what he was. Bodie's favorite thing to do besides mess with his dog sister and cat sister is chew on limbs outside. Everytime we pile some up he carries them off to chew on them. He is VERY affectionate and loves all people. He minds very well and is very smart. Anyway, just wanted to let you know how the pup was doing. Bodie, adopted by Chesna in 2009

We adopted Gretchen in October 2009 as an addition to the family. She picked us while we were at the shelter. I wanted a lap cat and she has been every bit of that and more. She is a talker and tells me every night that it is time for bed. When we get in bed, she lays on my neck and kneads and purrs till we fall asleep. She rides well in the car and plays on the cat trees at Petsmart. I am very pleased with Gretchen and happy that she is part of my family. Spinner was added to our Family in February 2010. After spending several weeks of looking for the perfect dog, my husband finally said that I could pick him out on my own. I came home with him within an hour of permission. He is only about 6 weeks old now but is so smart. Today he started letting me know when he needs outside to go do his business. He is a playful booger but a snuggler when he is tired. He is fitting in well with our 2 cats, and 2 other dogs. Gretchen and Spinner, adopted by the Mayfield family

On Tuesday, December 22, 2009, the Pipkin Family adopted Sam. He is a Corgi, Border Collie mix, and you found him with a group of strays on November 19. You really didn’t have much information about Sam…now Max, but he had presented himself as “friendly” around everyone at the shelter.
I thought you might like to have an update on Max:
Max is truly a wonderful Christmas gift! We love him and he loves us……can’t beat that combination! Thank all of you for taking such good care of him for us! Max, adopted December 2009 by the Pipkin family

We adopted Oscar in May of 2008 and he has brought our family a lot of happiness. We originally traveled to Weatherford to meet a large yellow lab we found on Petfinder. Well, the lab wanted nothing to do with us. We decided to stay and visit with the animals for awhile and that's when Oscar "adopted us". He crawled up into my daughter's lap and literally wrapped his little paws around her neck like he was giving her a hug. Tears started streaming down my daughter's face and she said, "Mom, I think we found our dog." We were surprised how quickly Oscar housetrained. He would go to bed at night in his cozy dog bed without any fuss. He loves to play fetch and go for walks. He has lots of acres to run on now and has a favorite toy that has to go everywhere with him. Oscar's favorite thing to do is to go camping. He loves splashing in the lake with the kids and riding along in the car to pick them up from school. We appreciate the hard work you do everyday to find loving homes for pets. Our little Oscar is a BIG part of our family and we cannot imagine not having him.
Thanks again,

Nikki's family adopted her from the shelter in 2005 and continued to support the shelter with donations of dog food and blankets. While dropping off supplies this Christmas season, they adopted Sam, a cat who immediately became friends with Nikki. They wanted to share the story of Nikki. "She has been a tremendous companion and truck dog." Nikki, adopted in 2005 by Bob and Anna

We found Bo purely by accident, we weren’t even looking for a dog. I saw an article in the paper about a dog that needed to be adopted and the article mentioned that adult dogs were harder to place and often didn’t find homes. My husband and I agreed that sometimes an adult dog would be better than a puppy but had never thought of looking for an adult dog. We called to check on the one mentioned in the article but we were told that there wasn’t a dog there that fit the description, although there was an adult black lab mix that we could look at. Something told us that we should go look so I drove back for my lunch break to check him out. We had a black lab mix a couple of years ago that was truly a part of our family but we lost him. I fell in love with Bingo when I saw him at the shelter. But he was not available for adoption yet, and he needed to win the approval of my shih tzu, Penny. Penny came with me to the shelter the next day to meet him and she was smitten by him, too. So I arrived at the shelter at 5am on the day he became available for adoption and was first in line! He's been a wonderful addition to our home ever since. We stop by the shelter frequently to drop off supplies for the other pets waiting for forever homes. Bingo, adopted by Dee (and Penny) in 2008

After moving out of my small apartment and into a house of my own, I decided I needed someone to share it with. I fell in love with Eva as soon as I saw her picture on Petfinder. She was in a foster home, with AMAZING foster parents who were so helpful and patient as I asked them question after question. I drove from Lubbock to adopt Eva and I couldn’t be more happy. Eva loves to run around in our big back yard, go on walks, chase sticks and play with her cousin, Cane. And she’s very good at getting me trained just right! Yes, she is very spoiled! Thank you Parker Paws and Petfinder! Eva, adopted by Jennifer in November 2008

McKenzie drove from Denton to look at a female shepherd at the shelter. This shepherd was very depressed and scared and was not showing well in her kennel...her chances of adoption were not in her favor due to all of her fear showing. Her ears hung low and she just looked pathically depressed and scared. McKenzie had decided he would adopt this shepherd to give to his parents for Christmas. He phoned his roomate to meet them at the dog park that afternoon. Ella met McKenzie's bulldog, who helped Ella become more emotionally stable and reduced her fears and anxiety some, he really seemed to help her come out of her shell. Later that week McKenzie drove both dogs about 3 hours away to go visit his parents for Christmas. They had recently been telling McKenzie that maybe it was time for them to get another dog. McKenzie went ahead and spilled the beans about Ella and sent them some pictures of her via his cell phone. Later on after Christmas, McKenzie had emailed me that his dad actually cried when he first saw her get out of the car. It's been a fabulous match ever since. Both his parents love Ella to pieces and McKenzie says she is a sweetie pie! Just thought you would like to hear this Happy Tail and see how great Ella looks now...so very different than her pictures in the shelter!. Ella, adopted by McKenzie for his parents in December 2008. |

I adopted my dog, Bear, from the Weatherford Animal Shelter in
January of 2007. He is a chihuahua/dachshund mix and he is the best dog
that I could have ever asked for. I just feel like dogs from the shelter are always the sweetest and sometimes it makes me mad that people will pay thousands or hundreds of
dollars for these dogs when there are so many at the shelter that need
loving homes.
Bear, adopted January 2007 by Summer.

(A thank you to Petfinder) My family was heartbroken after the loss of one of our two cats. She had been a shelter rescue and a dear, furry friend to my sons who had shared most of their lives with her. At first I thought we would just be content with our one remaining cat; however, I couldn't quit looking at Petfinder 3-5 times a day. In my heart, I knew that there was a cat out there who needed us and vice versa. There were (and are) so many precious cats and kittens on Petfinder. One morning before I took my sons to school, I looked at Petfinder. I clicked on a picture of a kitten that had not been there the day before, a Siamese mix. Wouldn't you know, both of my sons walked in as I was looking at her picture. They both asked if we could get her. No one had to twist my arm. I agreed to drive the 40 miles to meet her while they were at school, but would only bring her home if I thought her personality was right for our family and our other cat. Well, she really is as sweet as she looks. She loves attention and has plenty of nuzzles, licks and purrs to go around. After a few minutes of bonding, I couldn't fill out the paperwork and pay the adoption fee quick enough so I could take her home. By the end of the day, she had her name, Mocha. Her ears and tail look like a mixture of coffee, cream and chocolate...not to mention the fact she is all about sweetness! We gave Mocha a home and she has given back so much joy...a blessing from God. It took my other cat a few days to get adjusted to the newbie, but now they are friends. Mocha, adopted by Janet in September 2008. |

We adopted 2 of our dogs last year from the shelter. We refuse to get a dog from any where else since so many are in need. We got Roper and Mouse February 2007. They are perfect dogs for us! They love my 4 yr old son, Tyler and sleep with him at night. They love to come out on the boat with us and go camping or on any kind of trip! We are so lucky to have gotten 2 such wonderful dogs who not only love us more than anything but love each other too. As the saying goes the only thing that loves you more than itself is a parent or a dog.... Roper and Mouse, adopted by Nicole and Tyler in February 2007

(A thank you to Petfinder) The first moment I saw Ginger on Petfinder before even meeting her I felt the spark and knew in my heart she was the one. The next day the shelter was open we went as soon as they opened and within an hour she was ours. She is so wonderful and so amazing. Thank you so so much Petfinder! We would have never found her without you! Ginger, adopted by Heather in July 2008. |

Hi, I’m Lola a 12 wk old terrier mix. My sister, 5, says I am part terrier part fish. I think that’s because I love the water. I have been with my new FAMILY for less than a week, but I know they love me so much. My sisters, 5 and 7, fight over who gets to sleep with me. I think it’s cute, but Mom doesn’t. The day that they took me home we went on this thing called a boat. I had a blast. But Mom wouldn’t let me jump in. She said, “Not until we stop!” As soon as the girls jumped in I was right behind them. This has been the best week of my life. I have been to the river, Petsmart, Tractor Supply, the park, Granny’s house (she has lots of treats, yummy), and to load hay. Other than loading hay everything has been fun. Oh, the cat in the barn is so much fun, but I can’t understand anything she is saying. All she does is spit at me or maybe Mom said hiss. Gross! Anyways, I just wanted to say thank you for helping me find a new family. Lola, adopted in June 2008 from a Parker Paws foster home.

I was running loose on the streets one day when a man picked me up and brought me to a place with a lot of other very noisy dogs! Lucky for me a nice lady saw me the first day I was there and soon after I came home to live with her and her husband and two other nice dogs in Willow Park. I’ve been here for a year now and it is heaven! I get to go on walks every day, have the run of the house with Rebel and Rosie. We play every day, my belly is always full of food and I never go thirsty! The only down side is when Miss Denise made me wear a stupid hat in the Christmas parade last year, but I did look so good in it my picture was on the front page of the Weatherford Democrat the next day! I hope that all the dogs and cats in the animal shelter get good homes like I did. Baxter, adopted in 2007 by Denise and Alan Cook.

I just wanted you to know that I have a great new home and I am very happy. The family here hasn't realized I am a dog. They think I'm another kid in the family! Please don't let them know or they might treat me differently. Thanks for all you did and how you rescued me from the Animal Control and took me into your home. You did wonders with me and trained me well. I miss you all but am very happy in my new home!
Love, Cara, adopted in June 2008 from a Parker Paws foster home.

We had thought about getting a pet for a long time and saw Harvey’s picture in the paper. We were delighted when we got to the shelter and discovered he was still available. He has made the perfect companion dog and is now a special part of our family. Not to mention how smart and eager to learn our ways…..or have we learned his ways? We’ve had many pleasant surprises and some not so pleasant - like the day he decided to become a skunk hunter. He not only chases skunks but rabbits, deer and opossums too. We must also add he sleeps a lot!! We feel very fortunate to have Harvey as a part of our life. Harvey, adopted by David and Becky in January 2008. |

Just wanted to let everyone know that I've been having a great time this
past year since moving with my adoptive parents Southern California.
We (me & my 15 year old sister Cricket) go everywhere with Mom &
Dad-we each have our special seat belts and would hate to get left at
home when they go to the ocean (Malibu Beach or Ventura Beach-about 30
minutes away). In addition to her California adventures Sadie is currently in training to become certified with "Delta Society-Pet Partners" as a therapy dog in Los Angeles County. After passing an intensive series of evaluations together, she will visit facilities where her presence can enhance both emotional as well as physical rehabilitation. Our sweet Sadie has been the perfect girl for us and her little sister-our 15 year old Rat Terrier, Cricket. Sadie, adopted by David and Sheryl B. in December 2005.
